The UNDP

The United Nations Development Programme’s aim is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. They advocate for change, and are the UN’s agent of connection between countries and knowledge, experience, and resources, to improve people’s standard of living. We had the opportunity to interview a UNDP Resident Representative for the Union of Comoros. His firsthand experience is both interesting and educational for those wondering how scaleable impact is made.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is an international NGO, started in 1976 in Georgia, United States. Though it started as a grassroots effort, it has since grown into a leading global housing organization, working in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong’s mission is to bring people together to improve housing conditions in Hong Kong. Given Hong Kong’s land constraints, renovations take the primary focus, with “Project Home Works”. These improvements aim to increase the standard of living for the economically, mentally, or physically disadvantaged. We discussed motivation, individual impact, and more, with three leaders of the team.

Hands Raised

Michael and Susan Dell Foundation

Education, health, and family economic security are what this nonprofit focuses on. Dedicated to uplifting the lives of children, this NGO started in 1999 and has grown into an international-spanning organization, in the United States, South Africa, and India.

The Dell Foundation in India focuses the most on education, and how modern tools like technology can be used to better the lives of the economically disadvantaged. Our interviewee’s extensive corporate and nonprofit experience is inspirational, and sheds light on the “impact versus traditional capitalism” debate, as she’s found a balance.

Dahari

Dahari is an NGO in the Comoros Islands, with the mission of creating sustainable and productive landscapes with Comorian communities. Restoration and preservation projects are carried out, while improving the living conditions of the population. Dahari was born out of the 2008 Community Engagement for Sustainable Development (ECDD). We are particularly excited to share this interview with the co-founder of Dahari, as the Comoros Islands are currently sinking due to climate change. This makes Dahari’s involvement crucial.
